About Maho Bay
Maho Bay is a renowned eco-resort on the island of St John in the US Vrigin Islands. Two-thirds of the island of St John is the Virgin Island National Park with spectacular beaches and untouched forests.

The Maho Bay eco-retreat is in the National Park and was one of the original eco-resorts, started in 1976. The well-designed tent cottages have all the basics – electricity, beds, clean sheets and towels, and are high off the ground on a wooden platform. Wooden walkways and stairs take you everywhere and the impact of water usage is kept down with clean well-kept wash houses with toilets and showers, so we can stay on the mountain with the bay below and be comfortable and in harmony with the natural world around us.

Maho Bay is an idyllic location with access to Little Maho Bay at the foot of the stairs, to Francis Bay and Big Maho Bay via a short swim or medium hike, and to Waterlemon Cay, a flat ½ mile walk. The Maho Bay dining pavilion is one of the most beautiful romantic settings in the Caribbean.
You can expect average daytime temperatures of 82 degrees. The night brings cool breezes. There are friendly geckos, impressive iguanas, diving pelicans, and of course a whole world under the surface of the turquoise clear water. It is a great place to begin snorkeling if you have never been, but also offers world-class snorkeling with long swims possible, seeing everything from multi-colored fish to rays to octopus to sea turtles and cushion sea stars. No man-eating sharks though, never fear.
